Switzerland does not sell rate Halloween, however my town had a special pumpkin night on the Friday before Halloween. The market place of Grenchen was full of food carts and other vendors. Everything was pumpkinified and very pretty. To start the night out there was a half hour long dance performance with all of the kids at the primary school. It was really fun to watch. There was everything from five year olds waving their heads and smiling to hip hoppers doing the pop and lock. After the dance we got dinner. I had rachlett (still not spelled correct), a cheese dish I talked about in an earlier post. My younger siblings had French fries and a hamburger, we have officially switched countries food wise. Later I walked to the school with my host father and helped push pumpkin floats to the area where the parade was getting ready. All of the floats and pumpkins were mad by the school, the night is also a big fundraiser for the school. Every class in the school had different decorations. Some had large floats like the arc de triumph, other small mouse pumpkins, one even had a car decked out in pumpkins. I walked with the kids in the parade, I got to hold a fire torch and light the way for the class behind me. Well more like make sure there was a decent gap between the children and the fire. Both are very important jobs. When the parade was over we walked back to the market place and watched an areal silks performance. The preformed were wearing white suits and face pain which glowed under a blacklists for a very illuminating affect. Near the end I helped push the bumpkin floats back to the school and then walked home. It was very cool to celebrate another holiday (only in our town not all of Switzerland), but I did miss Halloween. Here are some pictures:
